Daredevils keen to end losing streak as they prepare to take on Royal Challengers Bngalore today

Delhi under pressure to win: Coach

It is about time that Delhi not just dared to win, but actually did so and time is fast running out for these stragglers as they face Royal Challengers Bangalore here today in the Pepsi Indian Premier League.

Despite the impressive line-up, the Daredevils have so far failed to measure up to expectations and would be under tremendous pressure to pick up their first points if only to prove that the team is not just au00a0collection of stars but an effective unit.

“Even after losing matches, the team’s morale is good and certainly there is pressure to win. We are under pressure to win every game. Hope this pressure will lead us to better results. The guys got to be positive and have to work hard for tomorrow’s game. That’s all we can do,” Delhi Daredevils coach Eric Simons told reporters on the eve of their match.

The onus will be on Delhi skipper Mahela Jayawardene who himself is in a dismal form and seemed to be struggling to get his boys to jell as a team that is sorely missing injured Kevin Pietersen.

The irony for Daredevils has been that in two of the four matches, they notched 160 and 165 and still lost, while in the other two games, they had scores of 128 and 114. The inconsistency of their batsmen, besides the absence of Virender Sehwag in opening three games, has contributed to the disappointing performances.

Simons said that the boys should enjoy playing under pressure. “We understand we are under pressure but if we don’t enjoy pressure, then we shouldn’t be here. We have to get into winning habit,” said the former India bowling coach.

RCB have looked unbeatable at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, having won all their three home games this season. —u00a0

When they last met... Delhi struck by Gayle-storm
A Gayle-storm hit Feroz Shah Kotla when Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils clashed last time on May 17, 2012. The West Indian’s scintillating knock of 128 off just 62 deliveries made the crowd do a lot of catching as he cleared the rope on as many as 13 occasions. Virat Kohli was an able ally, scoring an unbeaten 73. Delhi’s response was led by Ross Taylor as he gave them a ray of hope by scoring a breezy 55 off just 26 deliveries but 215 proved to be too big an ask as the hosts fell short by 21 runs. u00a0
