MHADA has begun refunding deposit amount to over 2,800 applicants; around 800 applicants provided incorrect bank details
Over 2,800 applicants who did not win the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) lottery this year have some reason to cheer. The Authority has begun the process of refunding money to applicants.u00a0
Refund of deposits has been pending for 2,841 applications, worth Rs 7,54,40,000, for reasons varying from wrong account numbers, wrong bank details, difference in name of the beneficiary, non-existence of the account, incomplete account number, account being closed and so on. All applicants had opted for electronic clearing system mode for refund of deposit.

According to sources, 800-odd applicants are yet to come forward to claim their money by providing correct bank details.
A MHADA official said, on condition of anonymity, “We have started the procedure of refunding the deposit amount to applicants. We have managed to clear the procedure for around 1,800 applications but around 200 applicants have provided wrong bank details.”
So far, bank accounts of around 750 applicants have been credited and the last day to submit refund applications is July 31. MHADA authorities are yet to initiate the process to call for repeat applications for 200 claimants who have provided wrong bank details.
In this year’s lottery draw for affordable housing at various locations, there were as many as 1,52,045 applications for 2,593 homes, of which, 11,179 forms were rejected during the scrutiny process. In all, MHADA had received Rs 314 crore as earnest money deposit from the applicants.u00a0
