Mumbai sees three suicides in 48 hours as a man unable to come to terms with an illness commits suicide, another takes his life after his family deserts him and a third man hangs himself after his business fails
Depression and high levels of stress led to at least three people taking their lives in the past 48 hours in different parts of the city.In the first instance, frustrated over his illness, a tuberculosis patient in Bhandup committed suicide by hanging himself. According to the police the victim has been identified as Shekar Kadam (40) and was suffering from TB for the past eight years. Initial investigations suggest he had been sacked from his job for poor health and in recent months his wife and son too hadleft him.
On Thursday evening, after his mother left their house to go shopping, the victim used his mother’s saree to hang himself from the ceiling fan. Meanwhile, a few miles away in Mulund, a Rajasthan-based businessman committed suicide inside Jasmeen Tourist Lodge. According to the doctor who was called in by the hotel staff, the businessman, identified as Kamaljeet Singh, died due to drug overdose.

According to the police, Singh died on Thursday night while the incident came to light on Friday evening when the hotel staff complained that Singh wasn’t responding to their calls. They broke open his room door to find him dead. An officer from Mulund police station said, “The staff found him lying next to two alcohol bottles. Two syringes were also recovered from the spot.”u00a0A suicide note was also found in the room where the victim confessed to being depressed as his wife had left him along with their two children.
“Singh was apparently in Mumbai quite often to attend business meetings. He checked in to the hotel on November 26. It is likely that he took an overdose of drugs,” an investigating officer said.
Senior citizen hangs self
In a third, unrelated case, a senior citizen was found hanging from a tree by morning walkers at the Yogi Hill jogging area in Mulund on Saturday morning. The body was identified as that of Jay Rajan (71) who was a resident of Mulund colony. According to police officials, the victim was a fabrication businessman and committed suicide as he was facing losses in his business. Investigations revealed that when Rajan left his home in the morning to go for his regular walk, he carried a nylon rope with him. He used this rope to commit suicide. u00a0
