Not just your diet, your shoes can be vegetarian too. Custom-made shoes from Mumbai-based brand, Senso have been designed using material that doesn't require animal skin. Ready to walk with the green brigade?

To promote a green lifestyle that is not just limited to one’s diet, Senso shoes have launched a range of formal vegetarian shoes for men that use Polyurethane (a unique material that offers the elasticity of rubber combined with the toughness and durability of metal) for production rather than animal skin.

The green mile
“The shoes are made without harming animals. Most formal shoes are made of leather, which is derived from cow skin. Senso shoes are crafted using high quality polyurethane, which offers a brilliant alternative to leather, and with all of the same flexibility, durability, and soft finish that you would expect in any high quality shoe,” says Ritu, director, Senso shoes.

Work on this concept had begun last year by partners Ritu and Nilesh, who were long-time vegetarians. They felt that the market for animal-free shoes was non-existent in India. Hence, Senso was created to offer comfortable, stylish, and luxurious footwear for vegetarians and animal lovers.

Currently, these shoes are available at Rs 1,900 onwards, and designs cater to men only, but the owners plan to expand to include women and children footwear and accessories as well.

Care and classy too
“We believe that embracing a vegetarian lifestyle doesn’t mean compromising on quality, style and durability. Therefore, our custom-made shoes are designed with the best of materials to ensure longevity and durability and optimum comfort. Once you try a pair of these shoes, you won’t believe they’re not leather. They look and feel like leather but are made without harming animals,” says Ritu.
