Opener backs Indian bowlers to come good in Mohali today despite poor show in first two ODIs

Dew will play crucial role in today's match: Shikhar Dhawan

Australia were written off even by their own experts well before they landed on Indian soil for the seven-match ODI series. But they won the first match easily and scored a mammoth 359 in the second before they were ambushed by Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The victory made India look mighty impressive, but their modest bowling attack was exposed pretty ruthlessly. In contrast, the Australian bowlers bowled extremely well in Pune on Sunday, and that’s where they would be seeking to draw inspiration from when both teams meet in the third ODI at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here this afternoon.

“We have batted well, but I would never go as far as saying that we have got the measure of their bowlers. The wickets we have played on have been very good batting wickets. I think on those pitches it was very tough for the bowlers,” George Bailey, the Australian captain said yesterday.

Meanwhile, opener Dhawan felt the situation was under control as far as bowling is concerned. He said: “See, these are very good batting wickets. Our bowlers are doing a great job, but of course, we are working more on our bowling so that we get stronger.”u00a0

On R Vinay Kumar and Ishant Sharma bowling too many short and wide balls in Jaipur, Dhawan said, “I guess the boys were trying bouncers, trying to surprise the opponents with short balls and were trying different things to upset them.”

Mohali has been a lucky venue for Dhawan and he recalled: “I have great memory here, made my debut here and got a century. Of course, it is a great motivation for me and I would like to repeat the same things here.”

Talking about the conditions, the left-hander said that dew would play a crucial role in today’s match. “Dew is always an important factor. As far as the Mohali wicket is concerned, it has been good for fast bowlers as well as batsmen. It should be overall a good wicket.”
