Civil aviation regulatory body issues public notice after it discovered that Rajasthan-based Singhania University was offering BSc courses in its name
In its bid to clamp down on educational institutes offering aviation-related courses using its name, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently issued a public notice, stating that it doesn't have the authority to recognise academic courses.
The public notice, 5-1953/11-AI (2) (copy with MiD DAY) was issued on February 10, after the civil aviation regulatory body learnt that Rajasthan-based Singhania University was allegedly offering the BSc (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) course to students, stating that it was recognised by the DGCA.
"It has been brought revealed that Singhania University in Rajasthan, has been advertising enrolment of students for a BSc degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering by making references to DGCA. 'It is brought to the notice of the general public that DGCA is not empowered to grant or recognise degree or diploma courses offered by any institute. UGC/AIECTE/ State Govt and Technical Boards, etc, grant such recognitions or affiliations,' the notice read.
'The veracity of such courses may be verified from the concerned body responsible for granting of affiliation or recognition for such courses.'
When contacted, DGCA chief E K Bharatbhushan said, "After receiving information about Singhania University we issued a notice to alert the public that we do not have any association with such courses."
When asked whether he would report the matter to other competent agencies, Bharatbhushan said, "We will see what could be done next."
