The first occupants of houses in Dharavi redevelopment project were announced on Wednesday. MHADA via a lottery distributed 266 homes in sector V of Mumbai's Dharavi area.

MHADA was given the mandate to redevelop this sector and they constructed a 18-storey building with a total 354 homes.

On Wednesday, MHADA carried out the lottery after which it distributed 266 homes and this was first-ever distribution of homes on Dharavi.

The homes are 300 sq ft and will be given to slum dwellers for free. On January 30, Dharavi Redevelopment Project's Chief Executive Officer came out with a global tender for redevelopment of the remaining 4 sectors.
