Dhoni refuses to get dragged into controversies surrounding IPL

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a thorough professional even when it comes to making comments. "Sir, I am a cricketer. I am not a businessman or a politician," was his reply, when a reporter flung a question about the recent Indian Premier League fiasco during a media briefing. Dhoni courted all cricket related questions in the normal cool, clam and dignified manner which he is known for.

MS Dhoni's captaincy has been instrumental in CSK making it to the final of IPL

The Ranchi lad has led the Chennai Super Kings to the IPL finals and has played many a match winning knocks for India. He also has the World Cup in the West Indies coming up next month where he carries the expectations of 1.2 billion Indians. So, how does he manage to keep his head composed at the pressure situations to come up trumps more often than not?

"Well, opponents read the body language and as a human being you are under the same amount pressure as them," he said.

He further added, "If (as a captain), I stay cool and calm it helps the bowler. He looks up to me when things are not going right and if he finds me cool then he gets more confidence. It doesn't help if I go and yell at players. In international cricket, body language is very important and I try and keep my emotions under check."

Dhoni was uncharacteristically caught banging his head with his bat during Thursday's semifinal against the Deccan Chargers. "At times you need the adrenaline going. I think it's ok as long as you don't hurt yourself," he reasoned.

There has been a lot of talk about the IPL post-match parties having an effect on players' performances. Dhoni defended himself by asking, "How many times have you seen me in a party?"u00a0 It was a fair call on his part considering he was also absent from the IPL awards later in the night.

He then proceeded to comment on other cricketers who enjoy being a part of the glitz. "All players are smart. You need to rest your body. Especially, Indian cricketers who need to be careful with the recovery because of a packed schedule. I don't want to speak for other players but I am sure they are at their best."
