"We came to know of the news through TV. Since yesterday (Sunday) our entire family was sitting in front of the TV. Everyone roared when Dipa’s name was announced among the list of players who qualified for the Olympics. We are very happy with our daughter’s performance.
Her recognition was also because of her coach Bisweswar Nandi, who has worked very hard for her, and Dipa has performed according to his coaching," said Dipa’s father Dulal Karmakar, who is a weightlifting coach with the Sports Authority of India .
"Dipa was a little nervous when she was talked to us on Saturday over phone from Rio de Janeiro, but now our long cherished dream is fulfilled," Dipa’s mother Gauri Karmakar said, with tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.
As soon as the news spread, people converged at Dipa’s home at Abhoynagar, on the outskirts of the capital city here, with bouquets and sweets.
