Young, aspiring filmmakers in the city will get an opportunity to learn the subtleties of the myriad strands of short filmmaking over the next four days. National Award winning Marathi director Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni and film academician Samar Nakhate are all set to conduct the fifth edition of their annual workshop, Shoot A Short, at Sathaye College Auditorium in Vile Parle.

The four-day session, which will be held from January 7 to 10, is open to participants aged 18 or above. It will deal with basic concepts of filmmaking, fundamentals of production of short films, translating an idea into a script, pre-production, production and post production while discussing other key areas like working with actors/ non actors, crew management and scope for shorts at
film festivals.

Passionate about short films as an independent form of storytelling, Kulkarni says despite an easy access to technology and resources to upcoming filmmakers, content-driven short films are hardly being made in India. “By providing the right inputs through a workshop, I believe enthusiastic participants can develop a better perspective and understanding of the medium of short filmmaking,” says the director.

Though known primarily for feature films like Valu, Vihir, Deool and Highway, Kulkarni has eight short films to his credit.
