England skipper John Terry has vowed to clear his name after being charged with racially abusing Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand. The Crown Prosecution Service have confirmed their intention to prosecute Terry over remarks he made during an altercation with Ferdinand during a match at Loftus Road in October.

"I'm disappointed with the decision to charge me and hope to be given the chance to clear my name as quickly as possible," said Terry, who was caught on camera making a remark, although he claimed he was merely repeating an accusation he felt had been made by Ferdinand. "I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends. I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence," he added.

Terry fit for Spurs clash
The decision to press charges came a day before Chelsea, fourth in the table, travel to third-placed Tottenham for a highly anticipated London derby in which Terry is expected to play. Terry was seen hobbling out of a training session at Chelsea's Cobham base on Monday morning, but the club insist the injury is not as bad as it initially appeared, and that the centre-back will be ready to face Spurs.

Meanwhile, Liverpool forward Luis Suarez reacted to the news that he was handed an eight-match ban and fined ufffd40,000 by the FA after he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra by insisting it has been a "very difficult and painful day" for the Uruguayan and his family. An FA investigation took place after Evra had accused Suarez of racism during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on October 15. Suarez tweeted: "Today is a very difficult and painful day for both me and my family. Thanks for all the support, I'll keep working!"
