Novak Djokovic admitted he would be too embarrassed to look at the statistics after a humbling 6-3, 6-1 defeat by David Ferrer at the ATP World Tour Finals in London on Wednesday night.

A season of superlatives is in danger of ending in a damp squib for the world number one, whose hopes of reaching the last four now depend on the results of his match with Janko Tipsarevic and Ferrer's clash with Tomas Berdych on Friday. Ferrer has no such worries, with the scoreline enough to send him through to his first semi-final at the O2 Arena.

Djokovic has lost only five of his 75 matches this season, and he had no hesitation in declaring this the worst, with 33 unforced errors the most glaring of those embarrassing numbers.

The Serb said: "All credit to my opponent, he played a great match. But I just wasn't there. It was the worst match I've played this season so far definitely. So many unforced errors. I'm not playing well. That's a fact.

Maybe it's because of the length of the season. Maybe it's just because I'm not feeling well on the court. But those days are possible in sport and you have to accept the defeat.

"It's hard to find something that I did well tonight, really. Movement, feel for the ball, anticipation on the court, nothing. Just a terrible, terrible match.

"David was playing well, no question about it. But I did not give him any resistance. I made so many unforced errors that I'm embarrassed to look at the stats."
