Pet parents and their pooches have reason enough to rejoice. A whole day full of pet friendly activities is in store for them

Is your dog cooped up all day at home while you are stuck at work? Does he try hard to get your attention the moment you get back home?

If yes, then Woof!, a Mumbai-based canine magazine and Canines Can Care, a non profit organisation that works with and trains dogs,u00a0bring to the city, 'Woofathon', a fun training course so thatu00a0 your furry friends can learn some pointers related to obedience but with lots of fun and play involved.

"We have exciting doggie events planned for the pooches, ranging from relay games to treasure hunts, leash walking and swimming ,we are going to keep pets and their owners on their paws all day long,""says Shirin, organiser and founder editor of the canine magazine, Woof!

Shirin, who has been in the field of canine behaviour for the past 16 years, is an associate of animal behaviourist and trainer John Rogerson.

"I have been in this field with the support of my husband Junaid, and together we have trained over 3, 000 dogs with different needs ranging from biting dogs to fussy eaters. We have also trained dogs for bomb squads and drug detection," says Shirin.

This is their first advent in the city and Shirin is very excited.

"We have been getting a lot of queries from the city over the years so we are looking forward to the event, especially since Bangalore is one of the most pet friendly cities in India," she says.

Shirin is aware of all the stray dog incidents in the city, she believes culling is never the solution. "Culling will only create a vacuum which nature will fill back in due time.

The increase in number of strays is surprisingly due to pet owners abandoning their pets for the most trivial reasons." She hopes to create awareness amongst pet owners with this event.
