The Shamrock Fair, a charity gala of games, food stalls, musical performances and other entertainment acts has been an annual affair in the city since 1989. A unique event, the fete brings together more than 3,000 families. The proceeds of the fair will be used to help the economically underprivileged of St Patrick’s parish as well as aid the restoration and renovation of the cathedral.
“This year our focus is on the youth. There will be more activities to attract the youth with events like drum circle, and live bands performing at the venue. We have chosen love as the theme of this year’s event keeping the proximity of Valentine’s Day in mind. The whole fete will be decorated thematically,” shares Father Wildred Parish of St Patrick’s Cathedral. In order to let couples with kids enjoy some alone time, arrangement of a small creche is also made.
Speaking on the popularity of the event, Father Parish shares, “People of the church wait for this event, very early onwards and participate in it full-heartedly as they are sure that proceeds are used for the right thing. The fete is a proud achievement of all of us.”
Charity has been a priority when it comes to the people of the parish, Father Parish informs us. He shares, “We believe in collecting the money for medical aid as well as education purposes. We will also keep a separate amount which we can give to people who approach for help in the year.”
