Man at wheel of SUV held for rash driving; one hurt in mishap
Au00a0doctor was killed in an accident in Karve Nagar after her two-wheeler was hit by a speeding vehicle that also left another commuter injured.
Dr Vaishali Vishwas Gund (45), a resident of Manode society in Karve Nagar, was rushed to a private hospital after the mishap, but she died while undergoing treatment.
The police arrested Rahul Pradeep Dhore (21) from Shivajinagar for driving his car in a rash manner and causing Dr Gund's death.
Jayant Neelkanth Talwar (41) of Anand Terrace society in Wadgaon Budruk, who was also injured in the accident, filed a complaint against Dhore with the police.
Talwar works in a private electronic company and was going to a law college in Erandwane for a training session on Sunday. He was riding his bike and had reached the Shivram Gopal Karmarkar chowk near Karve Nagar around 9.45 am. Dhore, who was driving a SUV, was coming from Mhatre bridge towards Rajaram bridge.
Police Sub-Inspector Sadiq Deshmukh from the Kothrud police station said: "Dhore's car first hit Dr Gund's vehicle and then rammed into a divider. Dhore had completely lost control over his vehicle, which then turned towards the footpath and hit Talwar's bike. Dr Gund was seriously injured in the accident and later succumbed to her injuries, while Talwar received some injuries on his legs. Dr Gund was practising at a private clinic and her son is studying in America."
Dhore gave a statement to the police saying that because of the rain he lost control of his vehicle on the slippery road.
