Schools issue guidelines to ensure H1N1 virus doesn't spread, create panic
The increasing cases of swine flu among students in Pune has prompted schools in Mumbai to take preventive measures.
With 73 confirmed cases of swine flu in Pune, including 17 children, schools here are doing everything to ensure the deadly virus does not spread and create panic.
St Gregorios High School, Chembur: The school's cricket team has cancelled its tour to the United Kingdom scheduled for next month.

"We decided it's best not to go ahead with the tour, because of the health risks involved.
Some of our students who are already in foreign countries will be asked to attend class only after they produce a medical certificate," said principal Ranjini Krishnaswamy.

VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon: "Visitors are barred from entering classrooms and the playground where they can come in direct contact with children.

Parents have also been advised not to send their children to school if they show symptoms of swine flu," explained principal Kavitha Sahay.
"At our school in Pune, we have asked all NRI students to produce a medical certificate," she added.
Podar World School, Santacruz: "We are inviting BMC officials to brief children on habits to maintain hygiene," said principal Vandana Lulla.
She added that a circular has been issued to all parents that advises them to keep their children at home if they show symptoms of the deadly H1N1 virus.
What schools should do
Dr Pradeep Awte, in charge of Maharashtra's swine flu cell, says Mumbai need not panic about swine flu.
"Schools with huge premises must shut classrooms for seven days if a student gets infected. Small schools should be closed immediately, as the risk of infection is greater," said Awte.
