Many have stepped out of the city for summer holidays, leading to a drop in the crowd at UID-card enrolment centres
For those who haven’t enrolled for an Aadhaar card yet, now is the right time to do it. Navi Mumbai has been witnessing a drop in the number of people thronging its centres. The main reason for this is the onset of summer holidays during which a lot of people go on vacations.
In the beginning, two centres Karvy Data Management Services and Wipro Ltd looked into the Navi Mumbai aadhar card enrollment in 2011. Today, there are 12 centres and one branch managed by Karvy Data Management services. These centres are at Airoli, Ghansoli, Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul and Belapur.

“There was a lot of rush when the Aadhaar card enrollment began. There were times when we had to issue coupons to people waiting in the queue,” said an official. “Till now we have enrolled over 94,000 people. However, since the last few days, the rush has been considerably less.”
On the other hand, Wipro Ltd has enrolled over 2.5 lakh residents from Digha to Nerul. Another reason why there has been a drop in the numbers is that it’s been around two years since the enrollment process began and many Navi Mumbaikars have already gotten themselves enrolled.
“When the Aadhaar card was made compulsory, the number of people getting enrolled increased drastically. But now it’s relaxed. Earlier, we would register about 1,200 to 1,300 people per day across centres in Navi Mumbai. Now there are hardly 800 enrollments,” said an official.
