Authorities issue notice that from September 10, there will be live current in the guideway beams and asked locals to not touch any wires
The monorail guideway beams circle through congested areas in the city
The monorail has gone live, at least on the electric work front. From September 10, the lines will have live current pulsing through and the authorities will be testing them. To that end, the electrical department of the MMRDA has asked the locals — especially those residing between Wadala to Jacob Circle — to be cautious and not touch the wires.

It should be noted that conductor rails fitted both on the concrete guideway beam and the High Tension (HT) cable at the height of 5.5 metres between the Wadala and Jacob Circle monorail stations will be energised with +375 V DC and 22 KV HT.

Speaking to mid-day, PT Abhyankar, officer on special duty (electrical & traction) Monorail unit of MMRDA, said, “We are going to start the electrical testing on the monorail’s second phase from September 10 and have already informed the public about it by publishing a notice. We would request the people staying along the corridor to make sure that no individual tries to climb the pillars of the monorail or touch the electric conductor along the guideway beam on which monorail travels as it can result in an electric shock.”

For the ongoing festive season, lighting decoration at many places has been done very close to the monorail guideway beams. When removing it, decorators will have to be careful, as there will be live power supply in the guideway beam. Tampering with the wire cable can also lead to an accident. “Even during the processions, many mandal members carry tall flags with an iron base so there are chances of an accident if they mistakenly touch the power supply line source that is open along the beam,” authorities caution.
