Double glory for Mumbai's Aryan

Mumbai's Aryan Goveas upset top seed Allan Johnson Koundan of Kerala and followed it up with an authoritative win over Gujarat's Atul Patel to storm into the semi-finals of boys U-16 and U-14 categories at the All India Tennis Association's (AITA) Championship Series in Amritsar yesterday.

Six seeded Aryan, a student of VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon, used his powerful serve and superior strokes to get the better of his bigger and stronger rival, Koundan, winning the first set via the tie-breaker and then overpowering him in the second set to win 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. Aryan later followed his victorious run in U-14 category by beating Atul in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
