'He asked for Rs 65k, then never spoke to me again'
I found someone on a matrimonial site a while ago. His parents were from Mumbai, while he and his brother were born and brought up in America. After chatting a lot, we found many things in common and eventually decided to take our friendship to the next level. He is an engineer temporarily posted in Turkey, and decided to fly down to meet me and make things official. A week ago, he landed at Delhi airport and informed me through customs that he had extra luggage. He had paid them, apparently, but was still short of around Rs 65,000, which he asked me to arrange for. He said they would let him take a flight to Mumbai after receiving the money. I was at Mumbai airport to receive him when I got his message, and could not arrange for the money. After waiting for the whole day, I was physically and mentally stressed, so I asked him to contact his friends for help. He stopped responding to me from that point on, and still hasn't replied. Was I right to do what I did? Why did he have to block me after we decided to live with each other for the rest of our lives? Was my helplessness the only reason for him to break all ties with me? — Bharti M
You may not want to hear this, but I think you're a lucky woman. No one who chooses to end a relationship for something so petty, and something so dubious, is someone worth being upset about. And no relationship that begins or ends without the possibility of dialogue, or empathy, or an attempt to understand the other person's point of view, can be successful. Why would you want to arrange for money for someone you have never met before in your life? Lastly, no engineer born and raised in America travels to another country without a credit card, or access to the equivalent of 1,000 dollars. Move on and forget about this man.
