Dravid heaps praise on match-winner Brad Hodge

Rahul Dravid went gaga over Brad Hodge after his scintillating 29-ball 54 knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad that powered Rajasthan Royals into the Qualifier 2 on Wednesday. “I think we were dead and buried.

We needed something absolutely special and Brad Hodge provided that. I think it was one of the finest T20 innings in a low-scoring game while chasing that I have ever seen. Hodge’s innings was special,” he said.

Important win
He also praised the team for coming up with this performance after being hit by a spot fixing controversy. “The win is important irrespective of whatever has happened off the field. It is the knock-out phase and if you don’t play well, you pack your bags and go home,” said the former India skipper.

He also added that dealing with the spot fixing scam has been one of the toughest phases of his career.u00a0The Hyderabad wicket has always aided the spinners yet Dravid took a risk by fielding an all-pace attack. “It was not an ideal combination for this track but the game shows our resilience.

“We knew an ideal scenario should have been playing a spinner but with injury to Praveen Tambe, we did not have that option also. I think the bowlers did a really good job to restrict them to 133. They are a dangerous team and our team did a good job,” he said.

Asked about their next hurdle, Dravid said the pressure would be on Mumbai Indians as they have many star players. “Mumbai are never easy (to play), they are a very good side. There are all stars. There’s nothing to lose, go out there, have some fun and see what happens,” he said. u00a0However, if Rajasthan go on to win the IPL; Dravid said it would indeed be a ‘fairytale’.u00a0
