Dress cool this summer

The temperatures are soaring day by day and it calls for a summer-special wardrobe. Designer Pawan Sachdeva says that bright colours are trending this season. “Linen and cotton fabrics are, of course, the best fabrics to be used whether for suits, Indo-western wear, dresses, shirts, trousers, pajamas, etc.”

Women can go for bright linen shirts, paired with neutral coloured trousers or cotton skirts. They can also team up bright coloured trousers with a white or a black shirt / top or a top in a pastel shade. Linen dresses teamed with loafers or sandals also look trendy.

Pencil skirts with formal shirts are apt as office wear. Colours such as white, olive and brick red are trending this season. Men can opt for full linen suits or linen jackets teamed with denims or cotton trousers. Bold prints are in for men, too. A bold, printed jacket teamed with a basic T-shirt and well-tailored trousers work well for an evening out. Men can also try out bright coloured shirts with denims and loafers.

Designer duo Barkha ‘n’ Sonzal say that, “Spring-Summer will feature digital abstract prints and you can add fun and colour to your wardrobe with vintage fashion wear for both men and women. With The Great Gatsby approaching release, fans of vintage fashion are going to adore glamorous wear such as shimmery dresses, coloured fun frames, wide-brimmed hats and fedoras. Pencil skirts, maxi dresses and shift dresses in fun prints are also must-haves this season. Bright coloured casual suits and bold patterned shirts are also something to look out for men.”u00a0Designer Gautam Gupta points out the Spring-Summer trends of 2013:

Asymmetrical silhouettes and cuts
Comfortable and carefree clothing is what will rule the fashion arena.u00a0

Western wear
Fashion this season is all about comfortable and free-flowing silhouettes, neon and other bright colours, animal, African, geometrical and floral prints, fluid drapes and layers, innovative surface texturing techniques, reinvention of Indian textiles and handlooms. Fabrics like cotton silk, Ghicha silk, and butter silk are some new variations apart from the regular georgettes, chiffon, cotton and silks.
Bright and warm colours

Neon colours will rule this year but one will also see monochrome shading. Prints are always focal in fashion and one can expect lot of bold abstracts and
funky prints.
Surface texturing on dresses
Texturing will again be the focus point. Use of laser cutting and applique, as seen last year, will again hold importance. Even techniques like tie and dye, Ombre dyeing, stone wash and sand wash on velvets and silk were seen in some designers’ collections.
Organic fashion
Eco-friendly fashion is much in the news and you can expect to see a lot of it this year with the amalgamation of natural yarns, dyes and fabrics in a creative silhouette and cut.
Fluid and drape dresses
Drapes have found a very prominent place in Indian fashion and with innovative techniques and styles they will just get more popular. Revival of Indian handloom and textilesOne particular arena where Indian fashion can make a mark is the revival of Indian handlooms and textiles which will be surely making an impact this year.
