Valentine Day is the day for celebrating love and it matters how you dress up for the same. Avantika Patil gives you a quick guide on how to dress to impress:

Dressed to kill

First and foremost Valentine’s Day is not just meant for people in love and relationships. This special day can also be celebrated with friends, spouse, family and colleagues. So you don’t really need to have a partner to dress up for. Dress up to look and feel good about yourself. You don’t wanna sulk when everyone else is blushing around right?

Dress diaries
Decide your dress, according to the kind of place and party you are going to. Do not go on a film date looking like a red carpet diva and dare not go for a candle light dinner wearing your gym gear. Do not over dress or under dress. Weigh your options and think twice. Also take into consideration the kind of locality you are in. Decide on a dress very carefully. It’s nice to keep the edge and the oomph.

Every woman should wear something that not only makes them feel comfortable, but also sexy and confident. You should be dressed up enough for a fancy dinner, comfortable enough for the dance floor, and still look casual enough for a romantic comedy! In general, the best way to go is a simple, classic dress that accentuates your body type. Maheka Mirpuri, designer, says, “Wearing a red dress may be too cheesy, but a long monochromatic sexy dress would be ideal. Colours like burnt orange or canary yellow with a gold or brown belt clinched on the waistline with nude high heels looks great. Team it with a nice clutch, soft but voluminous curls with nude lips and you’re set.”

Even men can make it perfect with the array of style statements present in the fashion market. Classic and dapper would be ideal for men this season. Maheka adds, “A good crisp black fitted shirt with printed cuffs teamed with a pair of slim jeans and loafers is trendy. For a more formal look, one can go with cigarette trousers, a white crisp classy shirt with French cuffs or a double collar. Team it with oxfords and you are set. You can throw on a blazer or a smart jacket, again depending on the look. A good watch and an amazing fragrance will complete the look for you.”

Team it up
Accessories are an important aspect of how you look. Depending on your dress, choose your jewellery. Girls are innately more romantic and want to show that they are in love with the best man in the whole world with the way they dress and accessorise. Love, romance and passion define the look for girls. Make sure to accessorise with the right shoes, clutch, and jewellery to finish your ensemble.

Statement accessories will always grab the limelight. From big neckpieces to earrings and rings, wear something that is a statement piece. To this, designer Azeem Khan says, “Earrings, eternity rings, bracelets, pendants, chains all look gracefully divine when diamonds define them. Heart shaped pendants are perhaps one of the oldest accessories that are generally chosen for the occasion. Heart shaped pendants can be worn as a charm in your bracelet or adorn your neck.”

Material for men
And if you were thinking accessorising was a girl thing, think again! Even men can accesorise and look smart. For the guys, accessories are items you wear for either practical reasons or to stand out fashionably in a crowd. Though many men may not realise it, accessories perk up even the most basic ensembles, making tried-and-true wardrobe staples look fresh again.

Azeem suggests, “This Valentine’s Day I would recommend that guys wear accessories that can really make your outfit pop. Don accessories that enhance your outfit stylistically, like a killer leather cuff or a bit of bling. From cufflinks to cell phones, the accessories you choose to wear or carry can have a dramatic impact on your appearance; they make your look, truly yours.”u00a0And not to forget, for the girls, wearing the right attitude with the perfect smile would definitely be the look while for the guys, confidence in his personality is the way to go.

For a lunch or a brunch date...
Nothing beats a soft flowy dress. Opt for softer fabrics like chiffon and light weight silks in colours which you like. Opt for big floral prints in pretty pinks to up the feminine quotient. Team your dress with comfortable heels.

Deepika Padukone

A nice piece of necklace and some bangles will look great and complete the look. To add to the sophisticated look, you could also carry a clutch bag in similar tones. For the day, again keep it simple and not too over the top.

For a film date...
Go easy on the glitz. While going for a film, you want to be very comfortable. You don’t want to be a centre of unnecessary attention in a film theatre making you and your date uncomfortable.

Anushka Sharma

So a smart jeans paired along with a nice top or smart T-shirt is your look. You can experiment with skirts, leggings, tracks and more. Wear the most comfortable footwear and carry a casual look.

For a dinner date...
The LBD is the ideal ensemble to wear for such an occasion. A nice low back would be interesting.

Bipasha Basu

Long straight ironed hair, red hot lips, a chunky gold cuff and gold shoes is all very dramatic. Simple yet elegant is the look, making heads turn and you end up feeling like a complete diva.

Imran Khan

Men can experiment with their jeans and T-shirt along with great glares and an ubber cool watch. If jeans and T-shirt is too casual for you, linen pants along with a light shaded slim fit shirt make a definite style statement.

Ranbir Kapoor

Same for the men. Denims and three fourths is your bible. You can completely swear by it. Do not attempt to dress up and look dapper, rather be smart and comfortable. This will ensure an impressive look and will also give you the desired privacy in this public place.

Shahid Kapoor

Stick to your formal best. Do not try and experiment with your casuals here. If a three piece sounds too much of an effort to you, adorn your best shirt and formal pants. Make sure you have a good hair cut and a clean shaven look in place. A shabby look is a definite turn down for an evening affair.u00a0
