The Gangammanagudi police have arrested a school bus driver who is creating nuisance by sending obscene messages to girl students and their parents. The accused was caught and beaten up by the parents before they handed him over to the police.

The accused has been identified as P Prashant, who drives the school bus for RV Convent in Abbigere at Lakshmipura cross. He used to pick and drop primary and high school students. He would collect phone numbers of girl students, on the pretext that they would come in handy if there was an emergency. But later, he started sending obscene messages to not only those students, but also to some teachers that he would divorce his wife if they agreed to come with him, police said.

Naina, (name changed), a high school student who was constantly harassed by him took up the matter with her parents. Naina had received obscene messages from Prashant more than five times in a span of two weeks.u00a0

When Naina came with her parents on Wednesday to complain, they came to know that many other students had received such messages from him. When Prashant was summoned for an explanation, he not only denied it, but also behaved arrogantly. Enraged by his behaviour, the parents gave him a sound thrashing, before handing him over to the police.

Prashant has been booked under IPC 354 (Assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage her modesty). He was produced before the 8th ACMM court, and was sent to judicial custody thereafter. A police officer said that Prashant not only messaged the students, but also to their mothers.

"Your mother looks better than you", reads one of the messages," said a police official. Prashant refused to confess at earlier stages of questioning by saying that it was the girls who had messaged him, but later confessed. In the meantime, the school has decided to dismiss the driver and arranged for another driver.
