Two companies from the two cities were raided and controlled drugs, meant for illegal export to the US, UK and Australia, worth Rs 60 crore were seized. Sources in the NCB said that few days ago the central anti-narcotics agency received reliable information from their counterparts in the US, about the Vadodara company’s suspicious involvement in illegal transportation of drugs to their country.

NCB Ahmedabad after getting concrete leads, recently raided the offices of Dolphin Pharma at Vadodara. 8.93 lakh tablets of psychotropic substances (controlled drugs) Zolpidem, Alprazolam and Oxycodone were seized in the raid.
The director and manager of the company, Anil Luhar and Zahid Shaikh, respectively, were arrested.

Luhar during questioning told interrogators that he procured the control drugs from a Mumbai-based pharma company, Krishan Chaudhary. Following this, NCB Ahmedabad and Mumbai jointly carried out a crackdown on this pharma company’s Andheri premises few days ago. 74,000 more psychotropic substances were seized, said Zonal Director, Mumbai, Kumar Sanjay Jha, adding that the director and manager of the company have been arrested in the case.

Sources said that the Krishan Chaudhary Pharma did not have a mandatory NOC from the FDA to deal with the seized controlled drugs. NCB sources said that the arrested accused pharma company operators illegally stored controlled drugs, and then illegally exported them to drug racketeers in the US, UK and Australia.

These drugs are banned in these countries, but drug ring runners there got their supplies from India. All accused have been booked under relevant sections of NDPS Act. More arrests are likely in the case.

Drugs couriered
Explaining the modus operandi, an officer said that the accused had floated few websites selling medical products and Ayurveda medicines. Under this guise the suspects were also taking orders from the foreign drug racket runners.
The accused would conceal drugs in couriers.

Another officer said that most of the time the drugs are exported illegally by misdeclaration.

Customers too were lured to work ensuring smooth transportation. Many times drugs are also concealed with medicines, cosmetics to get them to the countries.
