Duleep final: Central make early inroads

The rain gods finally decided to relent on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final between Central Zone and East Zone after hampering five sessions of play at the Chidambaram Stadium. East Zone managed to reach 64 for three at stumps in 31.2 overs before bad light stopped play.

East Zone’s opening pair of Dheeraj Jadhav and Natraj Behera started cautiously after Central skipper Mohammad Kaif put them into bat. Praveen Kumar (7-4-4-0) kept things tight at his end. The duo looked to have settled in at 44 for no loss in 17 overs, before Jalaj Saxena removed the openers.

The offie was the most impressive of the lot, picking two for 12 in his nine overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the other wicket (Anustup Majumdar 13).

At the close of play, Ishank Jaggi was batting on three while nightwatchman Iresh Saxena was yet to get off the mark.

Brief scores: East Zone 64-3 in 31.2 overs (D Jadhav 25, N Behera 22, J Saxena 2-12) vs Central Zoneu00a0
