East to meet Central in Duleep Trophy final

Anushtup Majumdar and Manish Vardhan made merry against the North Zone bowlers as East Zone romped into the Duleep Trophy final yesterday. They will face Central Zone in the final to be played on February 12-16 in Indore.

Resuming the day at 120 for one, Majumdar and Vardhan were engaged in a 251-run stand for the second wicket. North Zone's ploy of using part-time bowlers like Rahul Dewan, Mayank Sidhana, Mandeep Singh was capitalized well by the East batsmen.

Majumdar scored 144 off 227 balls while Vardhan made 125 off 246 deliveries. This was Majumdar's second century on the trot. The last time East Zone made the final was in 2005-06.

East Zone declared at 319 for five, setting a target of 348 for the hosts. At stumps, North were 126 for three in 33 overs.

Meanwhile, in Chennai, Central Zone entered final on the basis of 110-run first innings lead as the semi-final game against South Zone ended in a tame draw.
