Suspecting his wife of having an illicit relationship, a 64-year-old Vadgaon Sheri resident allegedly thrashed her with a stick, then assaulted her with a knife, and finally, believing her dead, hanged himself from a ceiling fan.
The incident came to light when the couple’s daughter-in-law returned home on Wednesday afternoon. Later, family members informed police about the incident. The 59-year-old woman, who has sustained several stab injuries is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and is reportedly safe.
According to police, the couple had had several scuffles in the past but other family members were unaware of this “The husband and wife were reportedly alone at home when the squabble started. The wife denied the charge, which enraged the man and he launched an attack on her with stick and knife till she fell unconscious due to severe loss of blood,” informed CV Jadahv, sub-inspector of Yerawada police station.
