Is it the end of the road for Virender Sehwag, Harbahjan Singh and Zaheer Khan? Probably. Not getting picked in the 30-man probables list for the Champions Trophy to be played in England in June is a clear enough indication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they are dwelling on anything but the past.
If the selectors were in a bit of dilemma regarding the trio, the approval, it is learnt, came from the men who matter. u00a0“I think it’s all over for Viru. Also, there is very little chance for Zak and Bhajji to stage a comeback,” a high ranking BCCI official told SUNDAY MiD DAY on Saturday.u00a0
According to sources, Gautam Gambhir will board the flight to England for the ICC event and is also expected to be back as a Test opener in South Africa later this year.
“Gambhir has not done badly of late and he will be considered for selection for the Test series in South Africa. But there will be constant pressure on him to perform since both Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan grabbed their opportunities,” another official said.
Things are sure hard for Sehwag to make a comeback in all formats of the game. “You have to admit that he was given fair share of chances, but he failed to grab those, it’s as simple as that,” said an official. u00a0
