The tourists lost their last four wickets for seven runs after fast-medium bowler Tim Bresnan, who finished with three for 49, made early inroads.

Earlier England, after captain Alastair Cook won the toss, made 268 for nine in their full 50 overs.

They made a rapid start but lost wickets either side of a fourth-wicket partnership of 118 between Jonathan Trott (72) and Eoin Morgan (57). Sri Lanka off-spinner Suraj Randiv took a career-best five for 42.
