Andrey Arshavin has spoken about Russia being awarded the opportunity to host the 2018 World Cup.
When asked by reporters if he was surprised Russia had won, he simply answered: "Yes. For me, it's difficult to say we beat England, because I play in England and like it here. But obviously, I supported my country and I'm very happy.
When asked how his Arsenal team-mates felt about his role in the bid process, Arshavin pinpointed one player in particular. "Jack Wilshere, when I came back asks me, 'Hey, what have you done? It's my dream to lift the trophy in England in front of my fans!'," Arshavin joked. "I tell him, you have a lot of time until the next election. You can wait!"
