India skipper has a solution to avoid RP-like incident in future

Rudra Pratap Singh, Zaheer Khan's replacement for the remainder of India's tour, has not reached England yet. The left-arm pacer, who was certain to play the ongoing third Test here at Edgbaston, is still in India, and awaiting his visa.

What is astonishing is that RP did not apply for his visa despite having talks with Surrey County Cricket to play first-class cricket this English summer. The feeling here is that RP should have applied for the visa at the time; it was his responsibility to do so.

Why the BCCI won't organise a visa for cricketers despite having a reserve list with the British High Commission beats logic. 'If an administrator can fly to England on sudden notice, why not a cricketer,' was the question doing the rounds here yesterday.

India skipper MS Dhoni had a suggestion to avoid such scenarios in future, "If we can organise visas for all 30 contracted cricketers for all the major nations (where India normally tour), this problem could have been avoided. That would mean anyone could fly in as a replacement or substitute at any given time," Dhoni told MiD DAY.

RP is expected to join the team today.
