The international defender told reporters that he thinks Portugal can reach the final, although he is sure it will be difficult, indicating that his side should concentrate on the quarter-final clash with Poland on Thursday, which will be "a tough opponent."
The Southampton defender rejected criticism levelled at Portugal, which finished third in the group stage after three draws in three games and qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Croatia in extra time, reports Efe.
The 32-year-old pointed out that Portugal played big games with good results.
Fonte, who started against Croatia for the first time in the European championship, added that his national team has "23 starters" and the coach regards them "all important."
