Duo was arrested during a joint operation conducted by the city and traffic police between Wednesday and Thursday in Zone IV
In a joint venture conducted by the city and the traffic police departments in Zone IV (Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Wano-warie, Mundhwa, and Vishrantwadi), a criminal externed from the city limits and a burglar involved in multiple break-ins were nabbed during the operation.
The arrested accused were identified as Venkatashk Data Sagre, involved in multiple housebreakings, and Rafiq Hanib Sheikh, who had been externed from the city limits.
The joint operation was carried out in the wake of the upcoming assembly polls. Besides, DCP (Zone IV) Manoj Patil also searched houses of 189 history-sheeters as precautionary measure.
Speaking to mid-day, Patil said, “It was during these surprise checks that we nabbed the two criminals. Sagre was caught near Hadapsar and Sheikh in Vishrantwadi. We will be conducting surprise checks in the area, as it will help us prevent untoward
Commenting on the initiative, DCP (Traffic) Sarang Awad said around 40 cases of people travelling triple seat and rash driving were registered, and eight were nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol. Soon, the drive will be extended to the various parts of the city.
“The main objective of the drive is to rein in the speed demons, who drive recklessly during nighttime, and the motorists who don’t possess valid documents for their vehicles. We want to spread the message among masses that they must obey traffic norms.”
