Video games and graphic-printed ghagras took centrestage at the first show on Day two of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2012
It wasn't Masaba Gupta’s much-loved cow and camera-printed saris that injected fun onto the ramp on Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week. This year, it was Aarti Vijay Gupta who took the baton, showcasing digitally printed doodle sketches inspired by the stick figure drawings designers create for their outfits, in her collection, I Love Ma Doodle Book. Need we say, we loved it too?

These sketches were seen on simple straight dresses with strong shoulders, jackets, jumpsuits and even saris. For men she showcased lapel jackets and bandhgalas, again with doodles. To add a splash of colour to the outfits, Vijay Gupta superimposed shade card prints on the sketches.
Next in line was Nikhil Thampi, who was the first designer in two days to make us feel like we were watching a winter line. Thampi’s line, called Survivors, comprised simple silhouettes in earthy tones such as brown, rust and black. Adding glamour to the line were slinky golden chains embellished on
cholis, bringing fluidity to the body-hugging gowns.
Another designer who intelligently used the trend of bold graphic prints was Sidhartha Aryan. Aryan successfully managed to fuse West with East in his silk ghagras, which, instead of being weighed down by kilos of embroidery, used the concept of digitally printed embroidery. These printed ghagras were worn with jackets in golden lace and peplum tops in yummy tangerine. A perfect buy for the urban bride, who loves to dress up but also, understands the importance of comfort.
After Aryan’s dose of Indian quirk came Yogesh Chaudhary’s collection inspired by the ’80s video game, PacMan. The collection was a riot of blues, yellows, reds and oranges, and all of it appeared in complete sync. The clothes also had colourful icicles printed on them. For accessories, Chaudhary got his models to wear chunky PacMan and icicle-shaped metallic neckpieces. Chunky wedge heels added to the ’80s glamour. Body hugging jumpsuits, saris, dresses and even dupattas had the ’80s video game craze printed all over them. u00a0
