5 simple ways to help you beat the harmful effects of radiation, courtesy your cell phone

There was a time when cell phones were only meant to facilitate easy access. Today, the scene is a completely different one. Over the last decade the wireless industry has transformed the lives of people around the world and cell phones have become indispensable.

In a recent study conducted by the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA it was found that cell phone usage resulted in increased brain activity. Since prevention is better than cure, here are five simple steps to cut down on cell phone usage, so you don't have to worry about the harmful effects of radiation.

Go hands-free
Using hands-free devices make sure that the phone is away from you and the ears are less exposed to harmful radiation. Also, make sure that you keep the phone in a holster when not in use.

Keep away from body
Don't press the phone too hard on your ears while speaking. This provides the highest exposure to radiation, because of close contact with the body, and also causes other health issues like neck and ear pain.

Don't keep it under the pillow
Cell phones should not be kept under the pillow when you sleep. The waves can cause headaches. Also, hard objects under the pillow disturb sleep.

low signal? Switch off your phone
When you are in a remote area or in a moving vehicle, there are chances that your phone fails to catch full signal. In this case, it is best to switch off the phone, as the electromagnetic radiation increases when the signal is low.

Send an sms instead
Handsets emit less radiation when sending a text rather than when making a voice call. Also, when you message the phone is away from your ear and thus the effect on temporal lobes is less.
