Delhi police sends challans to traffic offenders after seeing pictures on social networking site
You thought you could get away by jumping the red light in the night? Think again.
Now, Delhi police is taking the help of aware citizens, who are updating pictures on the cops' profile on a social networking site, thereby assisting to catch the offenders.
And if this wasn't enough to pull up your socks, the traffic police have started sending challans and notice to the violators after verifying the picture.

The Delhi police Facebook profile have received more than 285 pictures of the violators that were uploaded by netizens. The majority of pictures comprise women and cops breaking the traffic rules. Some offenders can be seen driving without helmets, flashing fancy number plates, dark glasses of cars and parking vehicles in no parking zone.
"We have got phenomenal response through our online initiative. More than 7,200 fans have joined us on Facebook. The users every second update our profile by writing suggestions, complaints and comments. The netizens have uploaded more than 280 pictures on our wall and have been forthcoming in coming with ideas to man the traffic system efficiently," said Ajay Chadha, special commissioner of police (traffic).
The profile aims to network better with the public and seek help to ease the traffic in the city, especially during Commonwealth Games. The Delhi traffic police are also on Twitter, another social networking site, which also gives traffic updates and advisory.
"The senior officers are pretty active on the social networking site and are constantly updating the traffic
advisory. We are even getting pictures showing police officer violating traffic rules and we have taken action against them after proper verification. But we still have a long way to go," added Chadha.

"Very good effort, very much needed in our other cities as well. Can we also have the real time traffic updates on Facebook similar to this one? I can see lot of innovative ideas coming from the users. Moreover, we get a chance to interact with senior officials," said Vikas Singh, a Facebook user.
