Police investigating the matter have taken cognisance of the family’s allegations, are not ruling out the possibility of insiders being involved in the theft of Aparna Pokharkar’s eight-hour-old baby who was taken by unknown lady during visiting hours on Monday afternoon.

The woman, who was captured on the hospital’s CCTV camera taking the baby, knew the name of the mother, and was keeping a close watch on the movements of her relatives, said family members. The stolen baby’s grandfather states that hospital staff must be involved in the case.

“The lady was keeping a watch on me. I later got to know she also knew my daughter’s name. She went to my daughter and uttered her name and told her to take rest. She also told her that she is taking the child to give him a dose of medicine, and walked away with the child. If she is an outsider, then how did she know various details of my daughter?” said Kisan Ganpat Wable, Aparna’s father.

“After women from the adjoining beds told me about newborn boys being stolen here, I had alerted my daughter. But, the security guard told me to not to wait in the ladies ward, and I went outside to buy medicines, and the incident occurred,” Wable said.

Deputy Commissioner (Zone III) Shahji Umap stated that they were looking into the into family’s allegations against the hospital administration, and have begun investigations.

He said, “If a woman enters a hospital and carries away the baby without getting noticed, the allegations made by family members have a point, and we are not ruling out the possibility. We are probing the insider angle.” u00a0

Meanwhile, police have pasted the picture of woman at strategic locations in the city, and have asked residents to contact them on either 27472218 or 9767197777, if they have any information. u00a0
