Newcastle United said yesterday they were "embarrassed and appalled" after violence broke out in the wake of the club's 0-3 home defeat to rivals Sunderland.
u00a0“We were embarrassed and appalled by the behaviour of a minority of so-called fans who last night (Sunday) were involved in disturbances and disorder in Newcastle city centre after the match,” the club said on nufc.co.uk assuring they would hand life bans to guilty fans. Police made 29 arrests as fans clashed on Sunday.u00a0
