The year-end seems to be a messenger for disheartening news. While the country protested for justice for the 23 year-old rape victim, who died in a hospital in Singapore yesterday, a 50 year-old father was arrested for allegedly raping his 18 year-old daughter repeatedly for past two years on Friday.
To add to that, the cops have also arrested the victim’s brother, who had also been raping her for the past two months.
Father Mahesh Pasat and 20 year-old son Hardis are residents of Phadke Road, Dombivli (east).
The incident came to light at 8 pm on Friday when the victim’s friend Ravi Prasad (name changed on request) spotted her crying at Dombivli railway station. When asked, she narrated the entire episode to Prasad, who took her to his resident and narrated the incident to his mother, a social worker.
They took her to Ram Nagar police station. Mahesh, who is a photographer by profession, had divorced his wife two years ago, after which he began to rape his daughter.
According to Vilas Jadhav, senior inspector, Ram Nagar police station, “Mahesh used to threaten the victim by telling her ‘ghar ki baat ghar mein hi rahni chahiye (matters of the house have to stay in the house,’ Hardis, meanwhile, has accepted his crime. We have arrested both the accused under Sections 376, 506 and 34 of the IPC.”
