Alleged quack almost kills 21-year-old kidney patient, father saves the day

Neelkant Sadhukhan will go a long mile, but might not run as fast as he could.
The senior athletic coach of a government school in Dhanbad donated kidney to his ailing son, thereby stalling his career in sports.

All for our son: Madhumita with husband Neelkant Sadhukhan,
the parents of Indranil, who is admitted in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Distressed over the past few months, Sadhukhan, waited for long to get his 21-year-old son get both his kidneys transplant, but to no avail. He then decided to save his life by being the kidney donor.

The Sadhukhans fell into the trap of a quack that claimed to be the deputy gynecologist at the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Indranil Sadhukhan, son of Neelkant, was suffering from an infection in his kidney and was under-treatment by the doctor for two months.

"Indranil was being treated at CMC Vellore and was under dialysis. A distant relative, Ishani Banerjee - who is now arrested - told us about the doctor, and fixed an appointment. Dr Supriyo Mukherjee from Hari Nagar in west Delhi claimed to be working with the AIIMS. He assured that our son would soon recover. He stopped his dialysis and prescribed medicines, which only worsened his health,"said Sadhukhan.

Sadhukhan claims that he paid Dr Supriyo more than Rs one lakh for the treatment, alleging it was later discovered he was not from AIIMS. "The doctor resided at Prem Nagar and we took Indranil for the treatment in July. His visiting card and prescription mentioned he was a gynecologist working with the AIIMS Hospital. And he claimed to have successfully treated 11 patients with kidney problems. He gave Indranil three injections a day for two months. I trusted him,"added the father.

MiD DAY has copies of prescriptions allegedly written by Dr Mukherjee for Indranil.
The patient needed an immediate donor, but couldn't find one. That is when the doting father decided to endanger his life at the stake of his career. "He is my only child and I can pay any price to see him alive and happy," he says.

The doctors have restrained the athletic coach from any kind of strenuous physical activities for at least a month, but the father doesn't feel the pain as he sees his
son smiling for life on the bed.
