Got in touch with victim’s cousin through matrimonial site, conned both of them by giving forged documents
After befriending a girl through a matrimonial website, a 25-year-old youth and his father duped her and her cousin brother of Rs 4.95 lakh by promising the boy a job in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) department.
Sangvi police have identified to duo as Mukesh Ishwar Suryavanshi (25) and his father Ishwar Suryavanshi, both residents of Matoshri building in Akurdi.
They have been charged under Sections 420 (punishment for cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim, Bhagyashree Nivrutti Yesne (24), a resident of Gangotrinagar in Pimple Gurav, lodged an FIR against the two accused at Sangvi police station.
Assistant Police Inspector S V Gade said, “Mukesh had contacted Bhagyashree through a matrimonial website. After exchanging messages, their friendship grew and he started visiting her house often.”
“During one such visit in July last year, Mukesh met Bhagyashree’s cousin brother Ganesh Barala and asked about his job. Bhagyashree told Mukesh that Ganesh was trying to secure a job in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF),” said Gade.
“Mukesh told her that his father could get him the job, but he would have to shell out Rs 4 lakh,” he added.
Police said Mukesh then kept asking for more money to get the job done. “Bhagyashree gave Mukesh Rs 3.65 lakh and Ganesh gave him an additional Rs 4 lakh later. A few days later, Mukesh gave Ganesh a letter stating that he has passed the medical examination for the said post,” said Gade.
“The letter was a forged document, bearing the name of the staff selection commission with a stamp of deputy inspector general of police,” API Gade added.
“When Mukesh failed to get the work done, Bhagyashree and Ganesh demanded their money back. After repeated requests, Mukesh returned Rs 2 lakh to Bhagyashree and Rs 70,000 to Ganesh. When they realised Mukesh and his father had conned them, Bhagyashree approached the police and registered the FIR,” Gade added.
“We have seized the forged document. We have ascertained their identities and after preliminary investigations, we will be arresting the father-son duo soon,” Gade stated.
