This recession thingy is actually a good thing.

When was the last time pubs threw so much alcohol at you for so little? Car companies, TV brands, apartment builders, hell they're all so much more welcoming and more pliable.

Clearance sales, end-of-season-sales, store closing sales... I mean, I know it's tough for the guys who're selling them but for the guys who're buying, there's never been a better time.

Shop attendants at the U B City who normally behave like the air they sniff, is more rarefied than the one you inhale ( especially if you don't have a famous last name, or a couple of mines in Bellary) now fall over themselves to be nice to you. "I'm just looking!", I drawl (as my eyes pop at the price tag on a shirt which is substantially more than the GDP ofu00a0 a medium sized African nation.) "Nah! Nothing that I like!" I say as I sweep out, on my way to the next designer store.

Sure, it is recession and my choice is either to splurge on a pair of shoes or eat out at fancy restaurants for the next one year. I weigh my options: Ummm....A pair of mean duotone leather wingtips, or lobster thermidor and chardonnay for the next three hundred and sixty five days...hmm... I think I'll move onto the next store.

Walk on to a Jet Airways flight. And hitherto frosty hostesses who looked at you with that Sure-I'm-serving-you-but-you-are-actually-scum-and-I'm-only-here-to-do-you-a-favour look over the haughty tilt of their badly made up noses, have actually thawed a bit. Now they actually smile at you as if flying coach class wasn't really scraping the bottom of the barrel of life.u00a0

Stroll into a snotty restaurant. And maitre d's, who in a previously prosperous period, would've merely sniffed over their superior sense - as they guided you to a corner table away from the eyes of the beautiful and blinged now run out the red carpet to the middle of the room and the limelight.

Sensex boom

The problem is the Sensex has started zooming upwards again. The weather looks sunnier at work. And the silver lining on the grey cloud seems to be becoming less of a line and more of a norm.

Does this dang reviving economy mean that the deals are gonna disappear? The waiters and the hostesses and the shop attendants re-morph into their condescending before-the-bust monsterial avatars?

Damn. It feels good to be the only customer in a store. Who ever said the Customer is King, said it in a recession, am sure!
