The internal strife in Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the newly-appointed executive committee hit a new low, with workers allegedly entering a private function and hurling abuses towards elected corporator Advocate Rupali Patil Thombre.
If Thombre is to be believed, party seniors did not support her when the alleged supporters used foul language towards her. Thombre has submitted an application at Vishrambaug police station against MNS supporter Raja Masoli, for using obscene epithets against her.
While speaking to MiD DAY, Thombre said that she came to know about the incident after few of her supporters updated her about Masoli using filthy language from the dais at a private function, assuming that it was an MNS rally.
“Earlier, I had gone to the party office with a few workers to express grievances of those, who could not make it to the executive committee from Pune. Masoli, who had secured a seat in the committee, thought that I had met the seniors to oppose his selection, and he was holding a grudge against me,” she said.
Thombre added that when Masoli’s despicable performance was going on, party functionaries, including Bala Shedge, Ravindra Dhangekar and Ajay Shinde, did not take a firm stand to stop him.
Party leaders react
Reacting on the matter, deputy city president of MNS Ajay Shinde said, “It is not true that we ignored the incident. We tried to stop it, but even Thombre was abusing Masoli.” When MiD DAY contacted MNS state general secretary Anil Shidore, he said that he was aware of the episode, and would report it to party chief Raj Thackeray.
