Acclaimed filmmaker of films such as 'Rudaali' and 'Daman', Kalpana Lajmi has been rushed to a hospital as her condition worsened. The 61-year-old filmmaker has been battling kidney cancer for the past few months. On the morning of 6 November, the 61-year-old filmmaker was rushed to a hospital in the Mumbai suburbs as her condition worsened.

According to a report in The Quint, Kalpana's mother Lalita Lajmi confirmed the news and said that the filmmaker is critical and has been admitted to the ICU in a Mumbai suburban hospital. She also said that her daughter has been going for dialysis four times a week as she doesn’t have two kidneys anymore - one kidney was operated on and the second one is also affected.

According to filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, all the medical expenses incurred by Kalpana Lajmi have been taken care of by the Indian Films and Television Directors Association, Aamir Khan and Rohit Shetty.

Kalpana Lajmi, who was also legendary singer and music composer Bhupen Hazarika's partner for 40 years, wanted to make a biopic on his life, but that has now taken a backseat now with her deteriorating health. Previously Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had offered Rs 1 lakh assistance to filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi. Gogoi, in a statement, announced the financial assistance to her from Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
