A month ago, MiD DAY published a report about the lack of proper toilets for the women police officials in the city. MiD DAY revisited Hinjewadi police station, where 22 women officials had to use a toilet of a hotel situated nearby.
New arrangement
After the report appeared, the women officials have been allowed to use the toilet block which was earlier used by the male officials of the police station.
The city has about 29 police stations and 60 chowkies. Separate toilets were not maintained in any of them. Women officials had earlier complained to MiD DAY that they were forced use a toilet of a hotel nearby despite having two toilets in the police station.
"After the report was published, I enquired with the women officials.u00a0 But they said they have no complaints about the fact that they had to walk for a distance," said senior police inspector Ganpat Madgulkar.u00a0 "After the report was published I have asked the women officials to use the toilet on the second floor, while officers and other staff would use the other toilet."
Madgulkar added that they are not in a position to make immediate changes in the police station since it is built on a rented piece of land with no scope for the change.

Waiting for govt
"The provision for separate toilets can be made after Hinjewadi police station is built on the land allotted to it by MIDC. The proposal is awaiting state government's nod for past four years," said Madgulkar.
