Six fire tenders, six water tankers and four special appliances vehicles were pressed into action to control the fire which started on the 12th floor of the building around 10.30 am.u00a0

“We thought the fire would quickly spread to other floors as well. Thankfully, the fire brigade officials brought the situation under control in just a little over two hours. Since the building was under construction, no casualties were reported,” an eyewitness said.

A police official from the BKC police station said they were informed about the fire at 10.45 am.

“Once we came to know about the fire, our staff and fire brigade vans rushed to the spot immediately. We saw smoke coming out from the 12th floor and the fire brigade officials started dowsing the flames. As the building was under construction, no one was injured. Some eight labourers, who were working on some of the floors, were immediately rescued from the building,” the official said.

Asked whether a case has been registered in this matter, the official said the cause of fire was yet to be detected.

“Once we detect the cause, we will take a call whether a complaint should be registered or not,” the official said.

As a precautionary measure, area around the building was cordoned off and people working in nearby buildings were asked to vacate their offices.u00a0
