First day, first show

Pranab Mukherjee was back on timelines after the swearing-in ceremony that officially pronounced him President. Someone using the handle Bhagwan Ramchandra had this to say: ‘As Mukherjee talks about uplifting the common man, a few kilometres away at Jantar Mantar, the common man screams for justice.’ There was this comment from Ramesh Srivats: ‘Pranab Mukherjee reaches Rashtrapati Bhavan where he will meet Pratibha Patil. Together, they will take the electricity meter reading.’ In the words of Joy Das: ‘Today, Mukherjee will be swearing-in as President while, at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal will be swearing-at President.’ Purba Ray had a question: ‘Is Pranab Mukherjee sporting a new pair of dentures? A new set of teeth for his brand-new toothless post?’ And from Comedy Central India: ‘His first assignment will be to discuss Pratibha Patil’s “Travel and Living” bills in Parliament.’

All is well
Kapil Dev resigned from the ICL, pledged support to the BCCI and promptly became a trending topic. Advanced Maushi tweeted: ‘Dev back with BCCI. Raj Thackeray back with his brother. Now can we have Rohit Sharma back to the Ranji Trophy please?’ Stereotypewriter added: ‘After Kiran More, BCCI grants amnesty to Kapil Dev. Afzal Guru to withdraw his mercy petition to President and send it to BCCI instead.’

Story continues
Team Anna was another topic of discussion after the fast at Jantar Mantar where National Students’ Union workers allegedly created a ruckus on Day One. Nikhil Wagle tweeted: ‘Once again, Congress refuses to learn a lesson from history! NSUI workers try to disturb Team Anna’s fast. Great help to Anna!’

The last word
From former MP Pritish Nandy: ‘When I entered journalism, Pranab as FM was much senior to Manmohan Singh, who was just another bureaucrat. That seniority finally restored.’
