"The thing about workouts like these is that it requires a certain fitness level to pursue them," explains Sanjay. "Not many can keep up with these workouts, but it's a great way to build stamina, when combined with other forms of exercise. Make sure you train under a certified trainer only, as without a good trainer, these workouts can be harmful."

The Dukan Diet
With fans like Jennifer Lopez, Gisele Bundchen and most recently, the mother of Britain's future queen, The Dukan Diet is likely to be around for a while. Designed by French nutritionist, Dr Pierre Dukan, the diet has taken French households by storm with women swearing by its efficacy. The four-stage diet starts with the Attack Stage, which is a high-protein, no-carb approach. The second phase alternates a high-protein diet with a vegetarian diet.

Next is the Consolidation Stage, in which carbohydrates are added back into your daily diet in small amounts to avoid weight gain. You are allowed two celebration meals per week. Once you've reached your goal weight, the Stabilization Stage kicks in. This final phase has a twist -- you can eat what you want every day except one day per week when you go back to the Attack Stage. According to Dr Dukan you can maintain your goal weight for life by remaining true to the Stabilization Stage.

Dr Canday advises caution before following any diet, however popular it may be. "Many diets have been floated in the market claiming certain results, which may be short-term. It gives the dieter a feeling of satisfaction when they start seeing results, not realising that it could affect their health and even mental well-being. Our body needs a well balanced diet.

Certain nutrients, if not consumed adequately on a daily basis, could lead to fatal disorders. The term Fad itself means that it is short-lived. It claims popularity only from those who have tried it or those who have started it." Moral of the story: However popular a trend may be, don't blindly ape it as it may not necessarily work for you, the way it does for others.
