The Sahakarnagar police have booked five persons for abetting the suicide of a couple. Balajinagar residents Ravindra and Archana Nimbekar were found hanging from a ceiling fan at a lodge in the religious town of Shirdi in Ahmednagar district on Thursday.
Archana's father Narayan Wadhonkar had filed a police complaint at the Shirdi police station naming five persons, Sarika Sanjay Jadhav and her husband Sanjay, Ranjana Shaha, Ankush Kale and A P Singh, for pushing his kin to take the extreme step. The case was later transferred to the Sahakarnagar police station for further investigations.
The Shirdi police had recovered a suicide note from the lodge room where the couple had been staying. The note reportedly said they owed Rs 1 lakh to Sarika Jadhav and because of her constant demands to return her money they were forced to put an end to their life.
Sub Inspector Tejaswini Yadav, who is investigating the case, said, "Initially it was revealed that Nimbekar had taken a private loan of Rs 1 lakh from Sarika Jadhav and her husband to enable them to pay their children's college fees. Jadhav had told them to pay Rs 3 lakh or transfer their house on her name."
Yadav said Shaha used to accompany Sarika whenever she used to come demanding money at the Nimbekar's house in Balajinar. Yadav said, "It also surfaced that the fourth and fifth suspect, Kale and Singh, had vanished after taking money from Nimbekar. This money allegedly belonged to self-help group members. This group was initiated by Nimbekar."
